Why we love Scripps Ranch – a Friday video short.

It’s Casual Friday, and before I get crackin’ with some paperwork fun, I thought I would post this short video reminder of why we love Scripps Ranch “biggest.”

(Apologies to our three readers — I think I went a little overkill on the ducks. But, hey, who doesn’t love ducks?)

Great video – you guys should do more!

It’s 86 degrees currently in Carlsbad, what’s the temp in SR?

  • http://sandiegohomeblog.com Kris Berg

82 degrees, snooty coastal boy! (OK — that’s in the shade.)

  • http://www.bubbleinfo.com Jim the Realtor

According to weather.com, it 86 degrees, but it feels like 83. You’ll probably hit 100 today, won’t you? Degrees that is, not age.

Another Animoto slideshow (now with video!). I don’t get it. To me, it’s distracting and overproduced. It reminds me of those old videos people would make back in the day and they would toss every effect they could at it (star wipe, blinds, mosaic, repeat star wipe!).

Not sure if it’s the photos but most of them show blurry on the video.

My suggestion? Do something more personal. Not just with pics and video but with you and Steve. Interview some friends/clients (short snips, maybe just one or two words like kid says “park!”, mother says “farmers market!”). Take the impersonal offsite computer driven video editing out of it and put the community into it.

Oh, and when you do video of people, have them ome towards you, not running away like your sneaking a shot in… looks much better and lots of people will wave and ham it up for the cam.

Soundtrack? Ditch it. Unless you can get one made by a friend go with the sounds of the community and yourselves. Voice-overs can be very powerful!

Most of all, focus on the video narrative. All videos must tell a story. They must flow and each scene should blend seemlessly into the next. When they don’t, that is when you use an effect (subtle fade is my favourite). Think about the order of scenes. School to sunset lake to school sportsfield doesn’t follow.

    Hope my $0.02 helps.

Though I’m betting this was just put together to play with animoto as so many realtors seem to do. Am I right?

Cool, I like it. I second the call for more videos. Add in a voiceover, too. My wife would be happy if I watched something other than Jim’s videos. She groans every time she hears me fire up the old man’s sarcasm. Jim the Downer she calls him, LOL.

Geez Will you grump. It has ducks!!!

  • http://sandiegohomeblog.com Kris Berg

Really, Will! (Thanks for having my back, Dwip.) We aren’t going for a Golden Globe, here. Just used the opportunity to clean my hard drive of “stock” photos and video. Great comments, but I have a day job. There is a cost/benefit issue which needs to be considered.

Next time I’ll use more ducks.

(BTW, not seeing blurry on my end.)

I like Jim’s videos, although I suspect he will crash one of these days while making one. With any luck, he will side swipe one of the ice cream trucks (but no one will be hurt, of course, except maybe some of the ice creams).

Kris, with your natural sarcasm and lightening fast sharp wit (ask Steve if you don’t know what I mean), you could make great drive by videos. But you’d have to switch to the dark side (telling sellers to lower their price already instead of waiting for the market to “turn the corner”), and I don’t see you doing that.

As a compromise, you could ride shot gun in Jim’s truck and take the video (so Jim can watch where he’s driving, for a change). Also, most importantly, you provide “color commentary” to Jim’s straight-man snarkiness. Be sure to have a couple of chardonnays in advance, it’s not like you’re driving.

Miramar, as in “Top Gun” Miramar?

I think it shows the neighborhood rather well.

  • Dwip

Yes, the same Miramar, although the Navy left some years back and it’s Marines now. Fighter jets still zoom around though.

Looks like it will be great. Do you know if this plugin conflicts with any other plugins? I’m getting a fatal error “Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found”

Is anybody else having problems with the LME plugin adding additional characters in the About text box. If I have an apostrophe in the About text box, on my web page I am getting a forward slash in front of the apostrophe.

    Example:
    County’s

I wish/hope that the almighty Zillow passes on these efforts and technologies into the rental market. I’m excited that Zillow now offers apartment and home rentals, it would just be nice to see these widgets and API’s available for rentals as well.

    Maybe some day.

Before I consider downloading,is there any developmental plans or proposals to be able to use this data in a cross country chart of trends and historical intellect? This is a fantastic tool for local regions and I suspect some of the larger organizations are accessing the data for their own intellectual use within their forecasting and strategic planing. To develop a tool that can be manipulated for deep analysis would be an added feature that would benefit cross purpose businesses associated with the real estate market.
